Self propelled adventure is the name of the game. Pictured above is the summit of Mount Cook in Whistler, B.C. The high-viz was a safety strategy for the dark pedal to and from the trailhead. A 14.5 hr round trip summit by fair means. Yeehaw!

We still use a vehicle when absolutely required but look for every opportunity to take a stand and walk or bike when most would drive.

Whenever logistically possible we aim to make a statement by leaving our vehicle at home and putting in the extra effort. The idea here is to emphasize that extra effort is what’s needed to make our world more sustainable. This is how we aim to make ourselves and our world into better, stronger versions. Change is not easy so we want to set an example.

Our home is a newly constructed Passive-house situated in beautiful Whistler, B.C. We’re lucky to have a housing authority with fore-ward thinking to keep affordable options like this available. The municipality has even constructed the local sports-field on top of an old dump. Neat.

Living in an energy efficient building is something we wear with pride and an environmental improvement from our previous house. Our location in B.C. also means there are such a variety of adventures accessible directly from our backyard. Ideal for limiting footprint!

This balance helps the stoke and keeps things fresh and stimulating. From epic snowboarding/ski touring, rock climbing, biking and hiking to fishing and water sports, Whistler really has it all.

We are on a humbling journey to clean up our lifestyles and become better versions of ourselves. It is our hope to share this quest realizing an individual clean-up is no solution for our sustainability crisis. We feel need to affect change towards consciously consuming via good decisions for a better future. Industry and big business only sees dollars so we need to use ours as wisely as possible. An important part of this requires getting informed so we will do our best to share what little we know. Weather you’re an all-in homesteader or just tuning in, we aim to stoke the fire.

Conscious consumption can help shift industry towards sustainability. Perhaps together we can think twice before spending and put in the extra effort to find the most sustainable alternative. These are challenging times so it’s a good thing we’re hardy people.

In the Coast Mountains alone there are more places to see and things to do than time to do so. Staying local is ideal for limiting footprint and finding a home with diversity is enabling. We aim to stay local and focus on adventures close-by but for us traveling is still important too. Experiencing different places, people, and cultures brings further balance and perspective.

This is a compromise on our footprint but one we still make. Carpooling is one way we offset road-trips. Ensuring purchase of local Parks passes and fees is another way to do some good when traveling. This is money well spent and helps support operational upkeep of the beautiful places we travel to experience. Doing something about the mess we see along the way is another strategy to offset compromises.

Thanks for taking the time to visit our page. We hope you find inspiration to get after it in whatever form suits you.

Keep stoking the fire!
